Wedding Day Timeline: How to Plan the Day for Photos

The wedding day timeline has a big influence on the photos. When there is time for each moment, the day runs calmly and the photos show it.

Getting ready

Allow more time than you think you need: hair and make-up often run late. Keep the details in one place, such as the dress, shoes, rings and invitation, so they can be photographed without rushing.

Ceremony

Ask the priest or celebrant where the photographer can stand. On the way out, plan the rice or petals right at the door, while all the guests are still together.

Couple portraits

Set aside at least half an hour for portraits, ideally close to sunset when the light is softer. Many couples do part right after the ceremony and part during the party.

Group photos

Make a short list of groups and ask a family member who knows everyone to help gather people. The best moment is right after the ceremony, while everyone is there.

The party

Put the couple’s entrance, speeches, cake cutting and first dance in the timeline with approximate times, so I am in the right place. If the coverage ends at the cake cutting, it is best to have the cake before the dance floor opens.
