Photography styles

Every photographer has their own way of handling colour, and that is what sets photography styles apart. Mine is realistic: colours close to what you saw on the day, with slightly warm tones, and some high-contrast black and white photos for the moments when the emotion needs fewer distractions.

But the style of the photos is also yours. If you prefer a different look, I adapt the editing to the most popular trends in wedding photography and artistic portraits. Below you can compare each style with the original photo: just drag the line from side to side.

My style: realistic, with black and white

For most of the gallery I keep natural colours, with a warm touch that flatters skin. Along the way, I choose some images for black and white, with deep blacks and clean whites: hugs, tears, laughter, moments where colour adds nothing.

Muted: soft, neutral colours

A calmer, editorial style. Blacks are softer, almost grey, and colours lose saturation. It works well on cloudy days, on beaches and at weddings with neutral-toned décor.

Teal and orange: blue-green tones and warm skin

Inspired by cinema. Greens shift towards teal and reds and oranges become warmer, which separates skin from the background. It works very well in gardens, estates with lots of greenery and late afternoons.

Warm love: warm, soft and classic

Warm images with soft contrast and a gentle glow in the highlights. It has a classic, romantic feel that suits sunsets, the beach and couple portraits.

How we choose the style

We talk about it in our first conversation. You can show me photos you like, from Instagram or Pinterest, and I will tell you how yours would look. The style is chosen before the wedding or session and applied to the whole gallery, not photo by photo, so everything stays consistent. The editing is done by hand. If you prefer a style different from mine, we discuss it in the proposal.

Which photography style should you choose?

More than the trend of the moment, it comes down to light and place. A wedding at a quinta full of greenery suits teal and orange. A beach day or a misty day in Sintra calls for muted, which is calmer. Warm love lives on low sun at the end of the day. And realistic with black and white works anywhere and ages best: twenty years from now the colours still look like the day itself.

It also depends on what you want to do with the photos. For a printed album or prints on the wall, soft and natural styles are usually the safest choice. For social media, a stronger style gives the set more personality.

Frequently asked questions about styles

Can we ask for a style different from your portfolio?

Yes. My own style is realistic, with slightly warm tones and some black and white, but I adapt the editing to what you prefer, whether that is muted, teal and orange, warm love or another look you show me.

Is the style applied to every photo?

Yes. The style is agreed before the job and applied to the whole gallery, so the set stays consistent from start to finish.

Can we mix colour and black and white photos?

Yes, that is what I do in my own style. Most photos stay in colour and I choose a few for black and white, in moments where colour adds nothing.

How do we show you the style we want?

Send me photos you like, from Instagram or Pinterest. I will tell you honestly how yours would look, with the light and the location of your day.
